What is PsychoShorts?

PsychoShorts is a 1-day annual conference held in February/March, hosted and organized by the members of the two psycholinguistics laboratories (the ERPLing Lab and the Centre for Child Language Research) from the Department of Linguistics at the University of Ottawa.

Typically, PsychoShorts consists of two sessions: one includes posters / poster slams, and longer-format talks for junior researchers who submit scientific abstracts, and another includes more senior invited speakers who give keynote talks and/or offer various workshops to conference attendees. In the past, we have hosted workshops on statistics using R (Dr. Vincent Porretta, University of Alberta), data collection with PsychoPy (Jordan Gallant, Brock University), academic writing and publishing (Dr. Debra Titone, McGill University), and ERP data collection and analyses (Dr. Stephen Luck, UC Davis); we have also hosted keynote speakers such as Dr. Sendy Caffarra (Stanford University) and Dr. Josée Lagacé (School of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Ottawa).

The conference is mainly aimed at junior researchers from universities in Ottawa and surrounding areas (Quebec, Montreal, Kingston, Toronto, Guelph, London, etc.).  We hope to offer opportunities to students for professional professional development in a safe and low-stakes context.
